online personal training in scotland

Working with a personal trainer or online fitness coach can have a huge positive impact on your lifestyle and health. A lot of people may be considering whether or not personal training is worth the price for them, and to help answer that question, I want to lay out the basics of how personal training or online coaching can help you improve your lifestyle.

1. Accountability

Having an independant person hold you accountable for your progress will make it easier to stay on track with your fitness journey. Checking in once a week and discussing the choices you make in exercise, nutrition and rest will make you much more concious of the decisions you make on a day-to-day basis, and will allow you to see where there are areas for improvement. Tracking your workouts, food intake and even mental state throughout the week for your trainer to review, for example, they can provide informed advice about whether you’re training too often or too little, whether your protein intake is too high or too low, and how you can make positive changes before the next review.

2. Tailored advice

Everybody has different requirements when it comes to fitness, whether the goal is weight loss, weight gain, muscle building, general fitness or sport-specific. A personal trainer will be able to tell you the best way to go about your fitness journey, and adapt your training and nutrition plans as you progress. While there is a wealth of information available on the internet, not all of it is evidence-based and useful, and not all of it is applicable to everyone. The training and nutrition requirements of an advanced 90kg trainee will likely be vastly different from those of an untrained 60kg trainee, and a personal trainer or coach will be able to provide the safest and fastest route to your goals, tailored to you and your level of experience.

3. 24/7 support

In addition to weekly check-ins and sessions in-person, clients have access to their personal trainer via text message, phone, email and social media to answer any questions with tailored advice.

4. Structured progress

With personal training or online coaching. a structured training programme or specific recommendations will be provided. With a training programme, progress is regulated week-to-week, and every day of the programme has its own valuable set of exercises designed to challenge and improve you for the next week. A structured approach to training will be much more valuable than going to the gym and selecting exercises at random for an hour a few days a week, and the benefits should be visible after just a few weeks.

5. Fun and engaging ways to exercise

Personal training isn’t just about pushing you to work hard in the gym, it should also be fun and educational. There are so many different ways to train for the same goal, it’s a personal trainer’s responsibility to help you find which exercises you enjoy and what might not work for you. Finding a training style that you enjoy will make your progress more sustainable, and should encourage you to explore new exercises and make more informed decisions about the way you train. Getting to know yourself and your physiology is an essential part of your fitness journey and will make the whole process a whole lot easier.
